Dahlia

Dahlias are beautiful, exotic-looking perennials that originally come from Mexico. They can be grown successfully in our colder climate (The Netherlands and Belgium). However, it is important to remove the underground tuber of the dahlia before the first frost and store it in a dry, frost-free place. The following spring, the tuber can be planted back in the garden once there is no longer any risk of night frost. Use dahlias in your garden as a stunning and colorful focal point. Dahlia flowers can also be used as cut flowers. Pick the flowers early in the morning and choose blooms that have not yet opened. Remove faded flowers to encourage a longer, more beautiful, and more abundant flowering. Dahlias flower from June through October.
