Chinese Lantern

The Chinese lantern is a unique ornamental plant, best known for its bright orange, lantern-shaped husks. A member of the nightshade family, it makes a striking feature in borders and naturalistic gardens. In summer, small creamy-white flowers appear first, followed by the characteristic lantern-like husks. These bright red to orange inflated seed pods stand out beautifully in August and September. They are perfect for use in bouquets, dried flower arrangements, and autumn decorations. The plant grows best in a sunny, sheltered location with slightly moist soil and is highly attractive to bees and other beneficial insects. A distinctive plant that adds colour and character to the garden from summer well into autumn.
