Sow outdoors in a well-prepared and manured seedbed from march till may. Sow thinly and approx. 1 cm deep in rows 15 - 20 cm apart. Cover the seeds with a layer of soil. Germination takes approx. 10 - 15 days, depending on the temperature. Keep moist and weedfree. Thin the seedlings to 10 cm apart, when they're large enough to handle. Transplant the seedlings, when they're 15 cm in size, to their permanent spot and keep 50 - 60 cm apart. To ensure enough space for each cabbage to form large, firm heads.
Protect the seedlings against birds, snails, slugs and other pests. This cabbage needs a lot of water and feeding during it's growth. Be careful: to much water in a short period can cause the heads to tear and rot. Don't put and sow cabbage in soil where cabbage has been sown in the previous year. Sow small amounts within a couple of weeks after eachother to spred the harvest period. Harvest the cabbage when the heads feel firm. Cut the stem of the cabbage just above the lowest leaves with a knife or remove the whole cabbage with a pitch fork. This cabbage can be frozen to store or stored in a dry, cool, frostfree and dark place.
