Dwarf French Bean Dior is an organically grown, fine and relatively thin wax bean with excellent culinary qualities. For an early harvest, Dwarf French Bean Dior can be sown indoors from April onwards, approximately 6 weeks before the last expected frost. Sow the seeds in individual pots at a depth of 3 - 4 cm and cover them well with fine seed compost. Beans are dark germinators, meaning they need darkness to germinate successfully. Keep the compost evenly moist during the germination period, but avoid making it too wet. Place the pots in a warm location with a temperature of 18 - 22°C. Try to keep the temperature as stable as possible and avoid strong drops, especially at night. Germination usually takes 7 - 14 days. Once the seedlings are strong enough and there is no longer any risk of night frost from mid-May onwards, they can be planted out in the garden. Maintain a planting distance of 20 - 30 cm. Protect young plants carefully from slugs and other pests.
From mid-May, once the risk of night frost has passed and the soil has warmed sufficiently, the beans can also be sown directly outdoors. Choose a warm, sunny position with well-drained soil. Sow the seeds at a depth of 3 - 4 cm and cover them well with fine soil. Legumes, including beans, do not tolerate cold soil well. Therefore, wait until the soil has warmed up sufficiently before sowing. Cold soil can delay germination or cause the seeds to rot. Keep a planting distance of 20 - 30 cm and provide light support if necessary to help the plants grow upright. Once the plants begin to flower, additional fertiliser can be given to support growth and fruit production.
