Kale Westlandse winter is an organically grown, very deliciously flavoured, curled kale variety. This medium high kale variety has dark green , slightly curled, deliciously flavoured, tender leaves. This variety can be kept to overwinter on the land and tastes even better and sweeter after a touch of frost. This kale variety can be harvested in the spring, the autum and in the winter. It can also be frozen to store. Use this kale in mash potatoe stews, stir-fries and as cooked vegetable.

Sow from end of april, when there's no longer any danger of nightfrosts, on a very well manured and prepared seedbed. Sow in rows about 50 cm apart and cover the seeds with a layer of soil.
Transplant the seedlings about 5-6 weeks after germination to a sunny plot with some shade. Keep the plants about 60 - 75 cm apart. Keep moist and weedfree.
Protect the plants against birds, snails and other pests. Don't sow or plant any cabbage on a plot where any member of the cabbage family has been grown in a previous year. Harvest this kale from september. Cut the needed leaves with scissors or the plant from the bottom up or harvest the whole kale. This kale can be kept frozen to store. First slice the leaves finely, than blance them shortly and then they can be frozen.
